Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been diagnosed with hypoglossal pharyngeal neuralgia. In the past , I have taken neurontin in large doses to control the pain. Then, I can go months without taking any medication and with no pain. Today the pain started again and I took 100 mg Neurontin at 4 am, 12 noon, and 7 pm. It does not seem to helping as the nerve in my throat is still triggering. Can I take another 100 mg dose?
The established therapeutic dosing for Neurontin in neuropathic pain is 1800-3600 mg/day in 3 divided doses in patients with normal renal function. This means the minimum effective dose is 3 times a day.
So there is nothing to worry and yes you can increase the dose if your pain persists.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Prabhash Verma, General & Family Physician
