What Is The Meaning Of Spotting During Pregnancy And Irregular Contractions?

I'm 38 weeks pregnant and last night when I went to the bathroom I wiped and there was a small amount of bright red blood and there was no discharge with it. I've having contractions real intense last few days but they always die off. What could this mean?

Hi,
It is normal for false pains and intense Braxton-Hicks' contractions to occur during the period prior to labor as the uterus braces itself for the event. If your placental position is normal, the presence of blood is indicative of separation of membranes and this means that you may go into true labor soon. Please monitor the fetal movements and consult your doctor as soon as possible. Avoid constipation and take rest in left lateral position as much as possible. Hope this information is useful. Wish you safe motherhood.
