What Is The Medication For Bruised Toe With Cracking Sound After Injury At The Pool?

At the pool, I slipped and caught myself with my right foot by kicking the stone tile (barefoot) with the ball of my foot. I immediately felt pain and figured it was just bruised. I did feel I slight cracking sensation, but figured it was just my mind playing tricks. A couple of hours later, I noticed some swelling of my toes and the bottom of my foot (where it was hit) and some bruising on top of my foot. I continued to walk on it with a slight limp and the bruising spread. When I went to bed, I noticed that I couldn t move my toes and figured that I would take ibuprofen and ice it. I fell asleep and woke up the next ya with a larger bruise on the top of my foot, but still no movement in my toes. My toes have been tingling a lot as well, especially the second one. I noticed while trying to move my toes that it takes about 5 seconds for them to move the slightest bit and when I relax them, they stay. My mother says that my foot is just bruised, but it has been three days. The pain seems to go away with rest and come back with use, and it s not tender except for deep inside by foot. I still can t move my toes, but they are moving involuntarily and it is very painful. I tried to walk normally, but all of my toes felt like they were going to break off at the metatarsals. Could it be broken?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Your symptoms seem to be related to the injury of the foot.

I suggest using anti-inflammatory medications such as Acetaminophen to relieve the pain.

I also suggest maintaining the finger immobilized to prevent further damage.

If the symptoms continue, I suggest doing an x-ray to exclude a fracture.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
