Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a 37 year old female weighing 170lbs and 5'5" tall. I have recently been having high blood pressure and my Doc asked me to get a home blood pressure monitor and to keep a journal of my readings for a few weeks. But I just took it twice and have gotten the highest reading yet. 165/120. i am wondering at what point it gets to be an emergency that I should go to the ER for.
hello, Normally, bp remains below 140/90 mmhg. If you high bp and symptoms like headache, giddiness, fainting, chest pain etc or bp is going above 170-180 then you should visit er to get immediate treatment. You should have a healthy lifestyle like avoiding fatty, oily and high calorie diet. Have low salt diet and monitor blood pressure regularly thrice a day for one week then once or twice a week. If bp is persistently more than 140/90 mmhg, then you should be on medicines for it. Regular exercises like brisk walking, jogging according your capacity atleast 30 min a day and 5 days a week. Lots of green leafy vegetables, fruits, fish once or twice a week, avoid meat. Avoid smoking and alcohol if any. There shouldn't abdominal fat deposition or obesity. Get your lipid profile and sugars tested once..
