What Is The Normal Fluid Intake For Elderly People?

This is a nice surprise, as my Mom s (she s 101) physician is very busy and rarely gets back to me with my Qs about my Mom s care. First, I need to know how much fluid we should be giving her, in context with her 30-40% renal function and the significant CHF-like symptoms she gets when we manage to give her 910 cc (32 Canadian oz, as she will rarely drink more) of fluid per day. She will not drink the 1100 cc we were advised to give her. Are you an American or Canadian doctor?

Welcome to hcm,
People that too elderly people who suffers from congestive heart failure ( CHF) has to take less water if she is taking 910 ml it is OK don't compel her much to drink water. They themselves will have a concept that if she drinks more it will increase the respiratory distress. Let her take the fluid maximum she can tolerate. Hope this explains. I am from India
