What Is The Normal Frequency Of Passing Stool In Kids?

My 4 year old boy has started going to the toilet up to 5 times a day. His stools do not appear runny but they look slightly slimy and off colour.
>He would normally go twice a day, but has also been waking up during the night lately needing to go. He is not complaining of any discomfort, i have asked him if it hurts or his tummy aches and he says he is fine.

Hello,

It can be a temporary gastric indigestion problem.

1) Give him more green leafy vegetables and fruits.
2) Avoid excess spicy foods.
3) Cooked oatmeal help in the soothing stomach.
4) He can be prescribed probiotic tablet containing lactobacillus if needed.
5) Drink more water.
6) Yogurt will be beneficial.

If no improvement than stool should be sent to a laboratory for routine micro examination and occult blood test done.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Parth Goswami
