What Is The Open Heart Surgery Survival Rate?

My sister is 53 years old, has had diabetes 2 for several years (takes insulin shots) is recovering from a foot infection (MRSA and VRE) in which 3 bones were removed, and we just found out she has severe heart blockage and will need to have open heart surgery for 4 bypasses as soon as the foot infection is under control. What is the likelihood of surving surgery and what is a survival rate at say 1 - 5 - 10 years out?

HI THANKS FOR YOUR QUERY.

YOUR SISTER SEEMS TO HAVE A "TRIPLE VESSEL DISEASE,ALSO INVOLVING LEFT MAIN CORONARY ARTERY...TOTAL 4 BLOCKED VESSELS(STENOSIS/NARROWING)" ON AN ANGIOGRAM AS PER YOUR CONVICTION OF REFERRING HER DISEASE TO BE "SEVERE /4 BYPASS ROUTES NEEDED" WHICH IS RELATED TO MEDICAL TERMINOLOGY AS ABOVE.

THE OUTCOMES OF CABG-BYPASS HAS IMPROVED TREMENDOUSLY OVER THE LAST DECADE.

THE CUMULATIVE 10 YEAR SURVIVAL RATES HAS BEEN INCREASED UPTO 78%-81% WITH THESE RATES DROPPING TO 17% AFTER 31YEARS OF THE SURGERY.
ADDITIONALLY EXCELLENT OUTCOMES HAVE BEEN REPORTED IN PATIENTS WITH TYPE 2 DIABETES MELLITUS.,SIGNIFICANT TRIPLE VESSEL DISEASE,INVOLVEMENT OF 4TH VESSEL -LEFT MAIN STENOSIS,..ALL THE ABOVE FACTORS APPLY FOR YOUR CASE.

THE OPERATIVE MORTALITY IS 1-2% IS SLIGHTLY MORE IN FEMALE PATIENTS DUE TO MULTIFACTORIAL CAUSES.
YOUR CASE WILL BE OPERATED ONLY UPON THE RESOLUTION OF THE INFECTED DIABETIC FOOT.
SO MADAM PLEASE TAKE CARE OF YOUR FEET AND CONTROL YOUR BLOOD SUGAR VALUES TO NORMAL RANGE,BOTH OF WHICH ARE VITAL PRE-REQUISITES TO YOUR SURGERY.

CONSULT AN EXPERT CARDIOTHORACIC SURGEON IN AN ULTRAMODERINISED TERTIARY HEALTH CARE CENTER FOR A CRITICAL AND A COMPREHENSIVE CARE.

CONCLUSIVE ANSWER:
EXCELLENT 10 YEAR SURVIVAL RATES IN THIS PATIENT..A GOOD OUTCOME IS EXPECTED

THANK YOU.
