What Is The Prognosis After A Stroke?

Hi, im a woman stroke patient when i was 48, 4 years to be exact this year. Despite of going to therapist and exercising, until now im still disabled. I feel depressed and hopeless to recover. Anyway i can move my hands a bit but still very weak especially my legs. According to my doctor its a mild stroke but i feel its not its a severe. What is the lifespan of a stroke patient like me? Thank you and God bless.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

If you mean whether your stroke has shortened your lifespan that is not the case. Whether a severe or mild stroke, its effect is by now over, it is not an actively evolving process, what's been done is done. What would affect your life expectancy would be the risk of a stroke recurrence. The chances for that are hard to assess without any more information. You provide no details on tests you've had on the cause of the stroke and whether the cause was identified. Different patients have different stroke recurrence risk depending on the cause and how treatable it is as well as accompanying conditions. You provide no info on preventive medication either. So as you can understand it's difficult to express an assessment of the risk of a recurrence which would affect your lifespan.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I have gone through your question and understand your concern.
Stroke symptoms improve with treatment and physiotherapy.
The power mostly improves in the first two years.
The residual spasticity can be treated with medications and Botox injections.
You can consult to a rehabilitation and physiotherapy center for evaluation.
