MY Mom is at the ER right now with BP 200 over 100, she is a methanphetime addict. She went to the clinic and they told her to go to the ER immediately because she has the symptoms of a blood clot in the lung. Can you tell me if she will likely die from this or is it treatable?
Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic. I can understand your concern. Blood clot in lung is known as Pulmonary embolism (PE). It is treatable condition. So no need to worry for death. Treatment depends on severity and size of PE. If patient is critical and size of embolism is large then surgical removal of embolus is needed. But if size is small and patient is stable (maintaining blood pressure) then anticoagulants (warfarin, Coumadin etc) and thrombolytic drugs (alteplase, streptokinase) are given. So no need to worry for death, take her to pulmonologist and discuss all these. Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wishing good health to your mother. Thanks.
