Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My uncle had bypass surgery in Nov of last year. He only had 30% heart function after. now he has a lot of fluid buillding up in his legs, he cannot lay flat without coughing spells with lots of phlem, he rarely eats and now he is blacking out frequently. It is getting progressively worse. Now it is happening several times a day. how much longer do you think he will live like this?
Hello! Thank you for asking on HCM! Regarding your concern, I would explain that, life expectancy is a multivariable equation. Sure that a very low ejection fraction is one of the main determinant, but whether a patient will keep being alive or will not survive, depends on his correct treatment and medical follow ups. I recommend that your uncle should consult immediately his attending cardiologist for a recent cardiac evaluation status (physical exam, cardiac rhythm, blood pressure, congestion severity, etc), and a prompt therapy modulation to relieve his congestion, and improve his overall status. If these recommandations are not followed, then his life expectancy will be for sure a poor one. Greetings!
