Hi,
By the history and information provided by you, it seems that your husband is suffering from pleural mesothelioma- stage 2 or stage 3. Though the prognosis depends on the extent of spread, cell type of mesothelioma, age, genetics and other co-morbidity present in the body.
Unfortunately, it is a very fast spreading cancer & does not seem to have a good prognosis even after best treatment. Usually, most of the patients have survival of 6 months after the diagnosis without treatment. However, with treatment modalities like surgical resection, radiotherapy,
chemotherapy and
immunotherapy in isolated manner or combined therapy, may extend the life up to 1-4 years.
It is really hard to care these patients at home, as they will need frequent testing to assess any spread, status and stage of disease by
biopsy, imaging, fluid aspiration cytology etc. Also, they may need frequent removal of fluids for relief of their breathing difficulty or relief of pain due to pressure by the pleural fluid.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
