Hallow Dear,
Tab. Mifeprisone 200 mg followed after 24-48 hours by Tab.
Misoprostol 800 mcgms. is a dose for termination of
pregnancy up to 9 weeks of pregnancy.
From your history, it appears that she has taken these tablets within few days of missed period. So these tablets should terminate the pregnancy. However, it seems that she has consumed only half the dose of Misoprostol. Please make her take the remaining two tablets of Misoprostol lest the risk of failure. Usually, the pregnancy is terminated within 24 hours of the last tablet taken; however, it may take few days also. The completion of
abortion can be confirmed by
ultrasonography. I always advise so.
Very rarely, these tablets fail to terminate the pregnancy. In such events, according to WHO guidelines, the dose may be repeated. However, still if it fails, then the pregnancy has to be terminated by surgical evacuation of the
uterus. At such early stage of pregnancy, it can be evacuated by MVA syringe.
These medicines which she has taken are potential teratogenic medicines; i.e. they can cause developmental abnormalities in the baby. Hence, if they fail to terminate the pregnancy, the decision should not be reverted to continuation of pregnancy. The pregnancy should then be terminated by surgical methods.
I hope this helps you.
