I started burping excessively after I was prescribed omeprazole and ranitidine twice a day for 8 weeks. Burping started a week after I started taking these. I am now no longer taking either medicine but burping still there. I burp straight after eating and also when stomach is empty. There is no regurgitation.

What Is The Reason For Burping After Eating?
Hi, Plain burping without any regurgitation after eating or when an empty stomach can be due to the following reasons: Aerophagia that is swallowing part of the inspired air while breathing. This occurs with stress and anxiety in most of the cases. Another cause is a lax lower oesophagal sphincter. A large amount of food with hasty eating habits. I would advise you the following in such a situation: Take small amounts of food say 4 times a day and to be chewed and swallowed slowly, no haste. Watch for anxiety and get it controlled. No aerated beverages at all. If there is no relief with these measures then try tablet Domperidone. Upper GI Endoscopy to see for lax lower oesophagal sphincter may be required. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Take care Regards, Dr T Chandrakant, General Surgeon
