Hi

I understand your concern regarding your skin problem.
You seem to be developing recurrent lesions of folliculitis.
I would advise you to keep the affected area clean and dry as much as possible.
Wash the area with a dilute antiseptic lotion before shaving it so as to clean it properly.
Now you should clean it with lukewarm saline water twice a day.
Apply a topical antibiotic cream containing mupirocin or neosporin twice a day to the lesions.
If inspite of treatment, the lesions persist or increase, you might require oral antibiotics.

Hope it helps

Hi. Thanks for writing in to HCM.

Seems to be folliculitis/Razor bumps.

Razor bumps can be a troublesome problem anywhere at the site of shaving e.g Beard and moustache in males. It can also happen in the pubic area.

Predisposing factors:
>Shaving the hair too closely, so that when the hair regrows it curls back on to itself and enters the skin with its sharp edge created by shaving.
>Shaving against the grain.
>Shaving without properly softening the hair with shaving cream, gels.

I would suggest that you consult a dermatologist. He might feel the need to start you on a corse of oral antibiotics for a week to resolve the infection.

Apply a topical antibacterial cream like mupirocin twice daily for 7 days.

General measures:
>Avoid shaving too closely
>Shave with the grain
>Soften the hair with a wet washcloth soaked in warm water so as to make the hairs soft Or you can use a shaving cream/foam Or shave the area after showering with warm water which would make the hairs soft.

take care
regards
