What Is The Reason For The Pain Behind The Ear?

I started having a sharp pain behind my right ear, kind of like when you eat something really sour. It was while I was chewing, but not something sour. Trying to eat my lunch, I noticed it started swelling and I couldnt chew at all without very strong sharp pains. Now it is a dull ache.
