Hello,
Thank you for posting on HealthcareMagic.
I appreciate your concern regarding the bald patch on moustache and i will try to answer your queries in best possible way.
As per your description, it seems you are having
Alopecia areata. Alopeicia areata is one of the common condition which causes patchy hair loss. It is an autoimmune condition where your own immune system attacks your hair follicle leading to hair loss. Usually the condition is harmless and self resolving but mandates treatment because of cosmetic concern.
Alopecia areata is known to be associated with history of chronic allergic diseases like asthma,
atopic dermatitis and other conditions like thyroid disorders,
hypertension etc. Thus, in non-responding cases or extensive cases i do suggest investigations.
In my patients of alopeica areata, i decide the treatment protocol depending on the history, associated conditions and area of involvement.
Since, you are suffering from very limited form of the disease, i would advise intralesional steroid injection therapy every 3 weekly as the first line treatment for you.
Additionally, i would prescribe oral
corticosteroids and biotin rich
multivitamin tablets.
For local application, i suggest application of
Minoxidil 5% solution and a steroid (
clobetasol) mixed with salicyclic acid solution.
In resistant cases, i also apply concentrated phenol over the patch every 3 weekly interval.
Hope this will take care of your condition.
