hello, i have been getting headaches for the past month now. I went and saw a doctor last week and he said it was just stress. The pain tonight is very sever on the left side of my head i get a stabbing pain every couple of seconds. I dont feel nauseous my head is just very sore.
While I can't give you a precise TYPE of headache based upon the very limited information your are giving and also the fact that your doctor knows your history much better than anyone (and stress is actually one of the MOST COMMON triggers for all headaches combined) your description of stabbing pains that are rapid and brief in duration are very consistent with a type of headache we refer to as TRIGEMINAL AUTONOMIC CEPHALGIC type and more specifically STABBING or JABS AND JOLTS headaches.
The most common and effective medication used for these headaches is INDOMETHACIN, however, there are GI side effects which unfortunately affect nearly 70% of everyone who takes the medication. Alternative treatments can include TRIPTANS such as IMITREX as well as HIGH DOSE ibuprofen or DICLOFENAC which is one of the best and most effective NSAID drugs for migraines or tension headaches.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Dariush Saghafi, Neurologist
