What Is The Reason Of Masturbation In A Child?

My 3 1/2 year old granddaughter has been masturbating and she not only takes pleasure in it but she also does it at school. Teacher does not like it. She usually does this at bedtime. Should I be concerned? Should I do something to stop or change this behavior? To me it is like dealing with a thumb sucker although none of my children or other grandchildren ever seemed interested in this activity. Thanks

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,
Thank you for asking question on health care magic.
Masturbation in a child of that age is common and physiological.
It is not a disease.
Better you divert his attention in some interesting play or something that attracts him.
It usually passes off as he grows old
Otherwise you consult a psychiatrist.
Hope this answer will serve your purpose
Please feel free to ask any more queries if required
Take care
