What Is The Remedy For Dry Cough Along With Dry Scratchy Throat?

I have a burning feeling in my chest, dry cough but mostly because my throat feels so dry and scratchy. Does this sound viral? I've never had pneumonia or bronchitis, so not sure if those are symptoms, or if it's just a viral upper respiratory thing. I am also 8 weeks pregnant.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...

As per your complain and presentation of symptoms all the symptoms that you have described indicates that you are suffering from GASTRO-OESOPHAGEAL REFLUX DISEASE in which the acid from the stomach regurgitates back into the throat and mouth due to relaxation of the muscles of the lower portion of oesophagus [food pipe].
The valve formed by the muscles is known as lower oesophageal sphincter [LES] and in pregnancy due to hormonal changes the muscles of LES tend to relax more and this leads to regurgitation of stomach acid in the throat and mouth leading to the above symptoms..

This is not due to any bacteria or virus..

You need not to worry and consult your treating Gynaecologist and get evaluated and she can advise you to take antacids containing calcium carbonate as it is considered safe during pregnancy..
You should avoid taking spicy, acidic and fatty foods.
Eat atleast 2 to 3 hours before sleeping..
Take a short walk after meals to initiate better digestion..
Drink plenty of water..
While sleeping keep your head at a higher position than the head..
Eat more of yoghurt and drinking cold milk can reduce heart burn..
Avoid stress and take ample of rest..
Sleep on your left side more often..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards..
