What Is The Remedy For Red And Watery Eyes ?

Last night my right eye slowly started turning red. This morning it is still red but now I have a clear gooey film covering my eye. My eye doesn t bother me other than it feels like the liquid is going to come out in the form of a tear. I did work 10 hours yesterday in a building that caught fire. I was helping to clear out all the merchandise that was damaged from the smoke & ashes.

Ophthalmologist 's  Response
Hi Jaene
Your problem looks more due to heat stress and allergic reaction due to smoky environment. Try washing your eyes with cold water (take a handful of cold water and blink a couple of times, repeat it often) and use a preservative free good lubricant eye drops to comfort your eye until you see your ophthalmologist. He will start you with antibiotics if necessary after a detailed examination under microscope .

However,if you have a localized redness with irritation and blurring of vision in one eye(in your case right eye) get examined yourself immediately to rule out any foreign body.Do not rub your eye as it might increase your corneal abrasions if any.

Take care.

Probly you have a hazy cornea, secondary to superficial burns while working for prolonged hours in a building with fire due to fire and smoke.
Use eye drops that contain antibiotic, neomycin and dexamethasone to stop inflammatory process of cornea as it may lead to corneal opacity and diminished vision and lubricating eye drops. Please do not take this lightly and do contact an eye specialist at earliest.
