What Is The Remedy For Severe Pain After The Removal Of Ovary?

Ok So I had my right ovary removed in 2001, 13years ago. Only my one ovary was removed. I have been having SEVERE pain and just had a ultrasound. The tech tells me I have an ovary, I was like ummmm no it was removed 13 years ago. I'm in a lot of pain and have been doing some research. Im pretty sure I have ovary remnant syndrome. All the symptoms match me to a tee! I have a doctor appointment in 2 days, just wondering if you think surgery is what will possibly be the next step to remove this! Im extremely terrified. Being a 30 year old wife an mother of 2 small boys :(

Hi and welcome to health care magic.

I am slightly unsure about the status of your ovary. You have written already that the right ovary was removed, so that means that the left one is still there. So the remaining ovary will be visible on ultrasound. I assume that ovarian tissue is visible on the right side and that is the reason you are worried.

Ovarian remnant syndrome occurs when some bits of removed ovaries remain behind while residual ovary syndrome occurs when the remaining ovary that was not removed causes pain. So please check on what side you experience more pain. If it is more on the right side we label it as ovarian remnant syndrome, if it is on the left it is residual ovary syndrome.

The pain that you are experiencing may be due to residual ovary or due to post operative adhesions [ sticking of organs to one another as a result of surgery].

Also the ovary was removed at a young age of about 17 years. It would help to know the reason why this was done and if it is likely to recur.

There are many other causes of pelvic pain like endometriosis, adenomyosis, infections and so on. Please be patient and let the doctor examine you and decide about the most likely cause. If it is indeed ovarian remnant syndrome, then it is better to try using oral contraceptive pills or drugs like GnRh analogues for a few cycles as women who respond to this therapy are more likely to benefit by surgery.

Hope this satisfies your query.
