Two weeks ago I stepped on the skimmer cover of our in-ground pool, it shattered, and my right leg went straight down, my momentum pushed me forward into the concrete pool deck and I ended up getting a 3-inch gash about 4 inches below my knee. I cleaned the wound and applied ice, but did not seek treatment. The area around the gash became very swollen and warm to the touch and the bruise at first was about the size of my hand, fingers and all, not just the palm. It took 3 days for the bleeding and seeping to stop. 8 days later I flew from Florida to Ohio and noticed the next day that I had increased swelling, pain, aching in the incision area, and the bruise extended all the way down to my ankle and around to the back of my calf. Today (6 days after that flight and a return flight back to Florida) the area is still swollen and slightly warm to the touch. The purplish bruise is slowly going away. Should I still be worried about the swelling and warm skin or will this go away in time as did the bruising?
