What Is The Right Dosage Of Folic Acid To Be Taken For Conception?

Hi, i am 26 years old and i am planning to conceive , recently i have visited to doctor and doctor prescribed me to take 5 mg folic acid at list 2 to 3 months before conceiving . Is this dose is good for me if not what is the right dose ? i have a thyroid problem also. i was treated with radioactive iodine treatment before 1 year for hyperthyroidism . After this iodine treatment my hyperthyroidism turns into hypothyroidism , now i am taking thyroid supplement drugs . Does this thyroid problem effect the health of my baby? please reply as fast as you cam , i am curious to know.
