What Is The Right Way To Soften Pustule And Treat It ?
My son has a fire ant bite that is several weeks old. It turned into a pustule (about the size of a BB) which is typical for him. Now the pustule is really hard. A nurse practitioner tried to drain it today. She was unable to get anything out of the pustule. She asked me to soak it in warm water and keep it bandaged so that the puncture from today doesn't invite infection. Yesterday, I noticed a red area adjacent to that pustule. This red area has a spot in the center which looks like an insect bite. He doesn't recall a bite. Of course, it could be something totally different. Should I take him to a dermatologist? Or is there another specialist that you would recommend? Is there anything that I can do to soften the original pustule and heal it? Thank you so much! Mary Repko
