What Is The Risk In Not Getting A Hysterectomy Done For Uterine Fibroids?

I have four small uterine fibroids I had a biopsy done and it was cancer free, I still have menstrual cycle and I am only at range of 15 towards menopause. It has been suggested by a endometriosis specialist, that I have a full hysterectomy. What is the risk of not having the surgery?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

If the size is small and you don’t have any symptoms, hysterectomy is not required. Fibroids rarely progress to cancer. You can opt for a wait and watch policy and do an ultrasound every year to assess whether there is any increase in size or not. If you develop any symptoms like pain and bleeding, better to get it removed.

Wishing you good health.

Thanks
