What Is The Risk Of Contracting Hiv By Touching Scab With Blood?

Hi doctor,
I am concerned about contracting hiv. I touched a person's scab while touching their hand. I did not see visible blood and I did not have any visible cuts or any bleeding cuts on my fingers/hand. If the scab had some blood on it, am I at risk of contracting hiv?

HIV AIDS Specialist 's  Response
Hi,
Welcome to HCM.

HIV can not spread through casual contact. HIV can not be viable outside the body fluids not more than few seconds.
HIV patients were taken care by their family members for years together, They came across such situations many a time. Similarly there are many HIV orphan or semi orphan children homes taking care for them. Doctors, nurses and other care takers are coming such situations almost everyday. But none of them got infected the way mentioned by you. So nothing to worry. You will not get HIV by touching the scab of a HIV positive individual.
