My mother is 85 years old. She takes medications for Back Pain (Lyrica), Low Blood Pressure (Medodrine), Cholesterol (Crestor), Diabetes (Januvia), Memory supplement (Aricept), thyroid (Levothryoxine), and an anti-depressant as a sleeping aid (Mirtazapine).
She has developed throbbing in her ears in the couple months, and her primary care physician has prescribed Nasonex Nasal spray to see if it would help lessen the throbbing. I can't really get an answer from her if she notices any relief (she is having some memory issues and sometimes get flustered
Is there something else that we could ask her PCP that might work.
The pain in her ears is likely to be due to the eustachian tube dysfunction ( this is a normal tube between the ear and nose) and this will be relieved by the nasal spray , so i would like you to continue it. Yon can also instil oxymetazoline nasal drops , 2 drops 3 times a day and ask her to take steam inhalation 3-4 times a day, it will help. Thanks
