Hi! I have Hashimotos and my doctor prescribed generic synthyroid for me, but right now I am having symptoms of being hyper, I don t want to take this medicine with my heart already racing and the muscle aches I am having. Any suggestions?? I have try to take before and couldn t stay on the because of the same problems.
Good day. HAshimtos thyroiditis may lead to hypothyroidism later. However, in the initial stages, it cause thyroiditis and at that stage, you may develop some features of hyperthyroidism as the inflammed glland pumps out lots of pre formed thyroid hormone. Hoowever, after some time, often the gland fails and develop hypothyroidism. In your case as your doctor started on Synthyroid, i suspect that you may have developed hypothyroidism. The dose need to be monitored by doing a TSH test after 6 weeks of starting the dose. If you are feeling symptoms of hyperthyroidism, you should retest Free T4 and TSH and if TSH is low, then the dose of mecicine need to be reduced. Please dont stop the medicine completely as that may cause trouble to you. Please meet your doctor who can arrange the tests and then modify the dose.
