MY 82 YEAR OLD FATHER HAS HAD ACUTE CHRONIC DIARRHOEA FOR AT LEAST 8 WEEKS. HIS STOOL SAMPLES CAME BACK NEGATIVE TO BACTERIA AND HE HAS HAD A CT SCAN WHICH HAS DIAGNOSED DIVERTICULAR DISEASE. WE HAVE BEEN TOLD THERE IS NO TREATMENT BUT OVER THE LAST 2 DAYS HE HAS RELEASED LARGE AMOUNTS OF CLEAR MUCUS WHEN HE PASSES WIND. HE HAS LOST HIS APPETITE AND IS BECOMING WEAK. HE SAYS HE HAS NO STOMACH PAIN BUT HE HAS VERY LITTLE FEELING OF MUCH AT ALL IN HIS TUMMY AREA AND IS OFTEN TOO LATE TO GET TO THE TOILET. ANY IDEAS WHAT CAN BE CAUSING THE MUCUS PLEASE?
- Take prescribed antibiotics - Take pain relievers. - Do changes in diet, starting with a clear-liquid or bland diet that is low in fiber until the pain goes away, then increasing the amount of fiber.
