Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have taken a blood test that showed low cortisol levels (4.6/dL). I m also being treated for GAD/panic (just changed psychs) and I ve currently returned (2 days ago, after the test) to using clonazepam once a day (I m wondering whether taking clonazepam 1mg will have any impact on my already low cortisol levels, or is it safe to take? My anxiety is really killing me. I ve been feeling lightheaded, low blood pressure and overall feeling of going to pass out , as I understand is usual with people with low cortisol levels (but also anxiety :( ).
I carefully passed through your question and would explain that your cortisol plasma levels are not influenced by clonazepam intake.
But, you should know that low levels of plasma cortisol could cause anxiety, low blood pressure and depression.
For this reason, I recommend consulting with an endocrinologist and discuss the possibility of starting cortisol replacement therapy. Further tests may be needed to establish the cause of cortisol deficiency.
Regarding anxiety, besides regulating your cortisol plasma levels, I would recommend considering starting an antidepressant in order to help you manage better your anxiety.
Hope you will find this answer helpful!
Kind regards,
Dr. Iliri
