What Is The Treatment For Bruised And Painful Toe?

Bashed little toe on Sunday, was very painful on impact and bruised some hours later. Bruise spread yesterday to part of next toe and part of foot and today even more of the foot. Doesn t hurt while stationary, but painful upon touch. Called doctor and she sent me to get an xray yesterday, waiting on results. Should I be concerned of gangrene?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hello,
Thanks for your query.

I have gone through your query carefully and it looks to be severe soft tissue injury of muscles leading to internal bleeding and this in turn leads to bruise.
You need an x-ray to rule out any bony injury.
I suggest you to consult an orthopaedician nearby for a detailed examination. You may get the X-ray of the area affected under his/her guidance.Beside icing and elevating it, you can take anti-inflammatory drug like motrin to reduce pain and inflammation. Avoid putting weight and rest well.

I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query.
Take care
