What Is The Treatment For Chest Discomfort?

Hi, am having mild chest discomfort while biking. New to exercise after long long layoff. Very anxious and scared. Cardiologist wants me to lay off caffeine and alcohol for a month and prescribed 25 mg of Toprol twice a day for one month. He also told me to exercise for 30 minutes/day everyday. Stress test in a month. I ve been so worried that I m wondering if I m bringing this on mentally.

hello
welcome to hcm
you have not mentioned your age and much information about your symptoms....well chest discomfort can be due to various underlying conditions such as

(1) angina due to underlying heart pathology
(2) lung disorders
(3) pleurisy
(4) costochondritis
(5) musculoskeletal
(6) gerd i.e gastro esophageal reflux disease
(7) acid peptic disorder
(8) arthritis of shoulder blades/ribs

you need to get 2 very simple investigations to make a conclusive diagnosis

(1) ecg
(2) xray of chest

once you get these tests either send me a scanned copy of your reports or consult your treating doctor

take care
