What Is The Treatment For Clear Liquid Leaking From Stitches?
2 weeks ago I had my appendix removed. On Sunday 8/3/14 1 hour after a shower a clear liquid was leaking from the stitches near my belly button. It leak for 30 minutes not too much, but enough leave a 3 inch stain on my shirt. I used some tape the hospital gave me and a cotton ball to adsorb the Liquid if it started again while I slept and took it off in the Morning. It leak again on Monday 8/4/14 in the same way. Then Today on Tuesday 8/5/14 around 11:00 am about the same amount, only this time after an hour when I replaced the cotton ball it was a little pink. They at 5:30 pm when I check it was a light red. Each time I replaced the cotton ball it wasn t completely soaked only a little moist on one side. The liquid doesn t really have a smell and doesn t hurt. I m not sure what to do.
Hi. As per your case history you are having suture site infection. My treatment advice is - 1. Keep the wound clean by applying povidone iodine solution. 2. Apply a mild antibiotic cream like fusiderm cream twice daily on it. 3. Take a NSAID like ibuprofen for 3 days to reduce inflammation. 4. Other treatment options are oral antibiotics like levofloxacin, cefadroxil and azithromycin taken only after consulting a dermatologist.
Thanks. Dr. Harshit bhachech. MBBS, DDVL.
