Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am currently constipated, and can tell that my stool is hard, not sure whether a laxative will help or not. I have been drinking plenty of water and put a little baking soda in the water as well. I do not ever take laxatives but feel like I really might need to right now. The stool feels hard and too big to poop.
Hi, i feel you should take laxative with stool softener action like senna concentrate /docusate. Laxative are generally habit forming , so avoid excessive use. Increase the amount of fiber in your diet by taking salads ,fruits and cereals and drink lots of water. For long term use, you can take fiber supplement such as psyllium or methylcellulose. In case you get no relieve ,then kindly consult your physician for further evaluation. Hope it helps.
