I am a 48 year old type 1 diabetic female (diagnosed when I was 22) who is 5 feet eight inches tall and 135 lbs. Below my ankle joints and in a diagonal direction towards my toes I have dark patches of dry thick skin on both feet. This has persisted for the past few years despite a regular routine of apply moisture cream (with urea), ointment and oils. I have also attempted to file the areas with pumice stones. My podiatrist has suggested I get a referral to a dermatologist. Do you any idea what may be causing this? I don t believe it is due to my footwear.
Hi. As per your case history you are having chronic eczema on both feet. It is more common in diabetes patients. My treatment advice is - 1. Don't scratch the lesions as it may worsen the condition. 2. Apply a good emollient like Enmoist cream twice daily on it. 3. Topical steroid cream like clobetasol propionate can be applied twice daily. 4. Other treatment options are oral vitamin A, vitamin D3, oral antihistamines, oral steroid medicines taken only after consulting a dermatologist.
Thanks. Dr. Harshit bhachech. MBBS, DDVL.
