Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Since you do have a history of allergies and
dermatitis, this is probably related. Though you have not had eyelid involvement in the past, dermatitis can progress and change pattern over time. Similar factors such as sunlight, dust, pollen. etc., in contact with eyelids can cause the reaction. The area you described typically does get involved in allergies.
Another thing to consider is
dandruff due to seborrheic dermatitis with itching and flaking of scalp and hairy, oily areas like eyebrows and eyelashes which could be the reason, similarly affecting the T-zone or oily zone near the nose. Oil imbalances could be suddenly caused by the
hormonal changes you are going through during
menopause.
As always, do keep a track of any other factor like food, cosmetics, dyes, new medication, travel, family history, etc., that could have brought about the problem again. Also, do you spend long hours in front of a computer working from home?
As for medication, continue your regular antihistamine (
Benadryl or
Hydroxyzine, etc.), try a mild steroid like Desowen for 5 to 7 days and check for improvement. If it persists visit a
dermatologist for an examination and regarding use of Elidel if required long-term. Any tests required can also be prescribed by them. Avoid any factors that usually affect you.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Dinah Levillard
