Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am being treated for diverticulitis with cipro and flagyl. I m 58 years old. Never had it before but had diverticula on screening colonoscopy. I took cipro 6 hours early last night by mistake. By the time I went to bed I was feeling pretty good. I took my flagyl at 4:30 am. slept till 11 am. 11 am due for both flagyl and cipro. I don t feel as well this am as I did last night. I m nauseated have a tugging on my right side and had my first stool since Monday AM. Loose lots of water and red. I have been on clear liquids since Monday which included red jello. I have been on flagyl and cipro for 48 hours. I don t want any unecesary tests. Could I have a bleeding diverticula? Does the discomfort from diverticulitis wax and wane? Did my sx come back because I took the cipro too soon then had to wait 18 hrs to take the next dose? I m sitting and feeling this right sided pain about a 4/10. Initially 48 hrs ago I had left lower quadrent pain that radiated to the right and on exam had point tenderness on the lower left quadrent.
