Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My mom's blood pressure has been gradually increasing since June. We've been working with her doctor over two weeks now. Her prescriptions were changed a week ago. The first two days she had avg of 150/64, but has gone back up. She has ranged from 181/58 to 191/68 over the last five days. Does it take time for the new medications to take affect?
normally oral medication for high blood pressure will show effect within 15 minutes to half an hour. high blood pressure not responding to the medication indicates some other abnormal systemic involvement(renal disease, endocrine gland disease).
As your mom's blood pressure Systolic is high(180and 190) but the diastolic(58 and 68) is less than normal. it defines pulse pressure(difference between systolic and diastolic) is more than normal(40 mmHg). it indicates some abnormal condition in Heart and related blood vessel (aorta)
kindly consult a cardiologist to get a ECG,echo and other related investigation like (Thyroid profile)to fix the issue.
thank you hope i answered your query.
