What Is The Treatment For High Cholesterol Levels?

I just had a lipid profile performed and it showed total chol of 239, triglycerides 95, HDL 76, LDL 133, with a ratio of T. Chol :HDL of 3.1. My VAP showed I am in a good profile regarding LDL (Fluffy kind). I exercise regularly at least 45 min a day at least 5 days a week. I am age 69. I am 5 ft 1 inch and weigh 103. A few months ago, I was on a cruise, was less attentive to diet, and my T chol was 248. When retested 3 months later, my T cholesterol was 217. In general, I eat healthy low fat foods--never any fried foods. Very occasionally I have a couple of slices of pizza. I had pizza about 1 week before this last test. Do you think I need to go on statins?

Hi welcome to HCM.
The requirement of statins is not needed in your case since the dietary management is alone sufficient to attain the desired blood lipid levels.Regular physical exercise for 20 min a day for 5 days week is needed for rapid results. So far you have been doing pretty well regarding your diet and exercise. The total cholesterol is marginally on the higher side. This can be controlled with diet and exercise alone.Screening 2 dimensional echo is helpful to assess the heart function on periodic basis.Consult your cardiologist for further help.
Thank you.
