What Is The Treatment For Itching On The Knee?

I have had an itchy knee for a couple of months now. The skin is often broken as a result of my scratching. In addition, my knee often feels numb. It doesn t seem worth going to my gp but I am concerned about the length of time I ve been experiencing the symptoms.

Hi,

Itchy knee can be due to many conditions like:
1. Dermatitis
2. Hives
3. Atopic Eczema or dermatitis
4. xerosis (dry skin)
5. Dermatitis herpetiformis

It's important to identify the underlying cause and fixing it. So, I advise you to:
- Take oral antihistamines
- apply topical steroid cream or calamine lotion in the affected area for a course and watch for the symptoms to settle
- If it is due to dryness then moisturize your skin twice a day
- If you've contact dermatitis then identify the source and avoid it, avoid scratching
- maintain hygiene and good skin care

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
