What Is The Treatment For Itchy Rashes After Being Diagnosed With Spongiotic Dermatitis ?
I have just been diagnosed with spongiotic dermatitis through a biopsy which seems to be a label for a skin issue that doctors aren't quite sure of. I have had intense itching and rashes of different kinds all over my body for 6+ months. After researching this, I guess the best way to start is through a gluten free diet. I have been told by friends to have blood drawn and sent for testing to find out exactly what I am allergic to. The cost is high but worth it to find out results. I do not have insurance but will pay the possible $600.00 to ease the misery I am in. I am on a high steroid cream now but the relief is temporary. I need to fix my interior. As an allergist, is this something you would suggest?
Hello, Welcome to healthcare magic. Spongiotic dermatitis is a histopathological term used to describe a skin biopsy pattern seen in various dermatological conditions, important ones being allergic contact dermatitis, irritant contact dermatitis and eczemas of various types( exogenous and endogenous). Gluten sensitivity could cause a condition called dermatitis herpetiformis which has a diffetent biopsy picture. I am not sure if avoiding gluten will help you relieve your itch. I would suggest you to do a patch test where a series of allergens are patched on to your back for 48 hours and then looked for any reaction. You could also go for blood tests like Radio Allergo Sorbent Assay to look for food allergens. Try to avoid nickel containing foods as these are also known to cause non specific dermatitis. ( chocolates and nuts are rich in nickel. You could Google for a list of foods rich in nickel). Hope this helps you. Take care.
