Hello, My mother is suffering from a severe migraine headache, and typically takes Rizatriptan Benzoate to alleviate her symptoms. However, she is scheduled to have a colonoscopy in 4 days and has concerns about it being an issue on the day of her procedure. Will that prescription be an issue for her colonoscopy? Thank You.
Hello dear, I understand your concern.Your mother is apparently having a definite diagnosis of 'migraine' as she is on rizatriptan. Rizatriptan is a drug that is not given on everyday basis, rather at the time of a severe episode only.It is not preventive but an abortive(which abort the acute attack) therapy for migraine.Your mother is going to have colonoscopy in 4 days and If she does not have an attack till then, there is no need to give it.It is a relatively safe drug and clinically significant side-effects are not much.I hope it helps.
