Hi, I got a root canal 4 days ago and part of my tongue is still numb...I am very worried and feeling unconfortable. Even it is in less of a quarter of the tongue and I haven't lost the taste completely..is still bothering, I would like to know what can I do fix this condition. Thanks in advance
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain it seems like when the anaesthesia injection was given to you the needle has pricked the nerve and nerve injury causes damage to the Mylein Sheath that is present over the nerve as a protective covering and it leads to tingling, numbness and loss of taste due to involvement of taste fibres.. Many a times needle prick injuries are mostly transient and nerve regenerates completely in 1 to 2 weeks while can even take longer time of even months.. As of now you can start taking Vitamin B complex supplements and do warm compresses over tongue.. If you do not see any improvement in one month consult a Neurophysician and get evaluated..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr. Honey Nandwani Arora.
