What Is The Treatment For Persistent Cough?

Hi there, My 2 months old girl baby has cough since last 1 week. we did 5 days of nebulization (3 times daily-Asthalin/Adrenalin). Kofarest and Mox was also given, how ever the cough is not coming down. Doc has advised Asthalin inhaler 2 puffs- evry4hrs now. All her activities are normal and no fever too. feeding and excretion are normal too. is this a good advise or is there anything more we need investigate before starting on inhalers?

Hi,

Noted the history about your 2 month baby having cough for the last 1 week and being treated with nebulization with Asthalin and Adrenaline,
Kofarest and Mox; there is no fever, activities are normal. Wants to know whether this is the correct line of treatment.
As per the history the treatment looks on the correct line and looks to be initiated by a Pediatrician.
Hence I would advise you the following in such a condition:
It is unusual for such small baby to have persistent cough for 1 week.
Watch for the people in house who have viral and do not allow then near the baby.
Also watch whether the temperature is changing in room to extreme like too cold in the morning and too cold in the evening or night.
Do not feed the baby in laying down position.
If there is running nose ask the pediatrician for proper nasal drops.
Also give multivitamins and mineral drops under the directives of the Pediatrician.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, ENT and General Surgeon
