Nasal congestion is very common in newborns.
use of decongestants is not recommended in newborns.
Over use can lead to rebound congestion .
simply use NASAL SALINE DROPS 2 to 3 times a day , before feeds so that baby is comfortable while feeding.
also avoid situations that trigger congestion like AC over cooling or direct exposure, smoke in the room , furry beddings, dust .
Newborns usually do not have prominent
cough as a symptom . May have occasional cough in
common cold which will subside. If the coughing is sever it shows a more serious underlying condition for which you will need to visit a specialist.
If the baby is feeding well and active , please do not over treat , common cold will subside gradually.
