What Is The Treatment For Severe Neck Pain?

Hi, my dad started feeling deep pain at the top of his neck a week ago and is still feeling it if he moves his neck. I'm a little worried because I now have the same problem with my neck and it is uncomfortable. Is it worth both of us going to see our doctors or do you think it might just be a virus?
