Thank You for contacting HCM.
Regarding your concern I would like to explain that
adenoids are a common cause of obstruction of upper airways in children, causing
obstructive sleep apnea.
Surgery for adenoids can be performed after the age of 3.
But there are also some therapy options like oral
steroids, which can help >Reduce the volume of the adenoids and tonsils
> decreasing the obstruction level.
Antihistamines may be also helpful, based on the fact that the hypertrophic adenoids are caused by an
allergic reaction.
Allergy testing and avoid precipitating factors may be useful too.
But if your son is having recurrent attacks you should go for surgery.
Regarding surgery
Both tonsil and adenoid tissue has the ability to regenerate if it is not completely removed during surgery. However, this isn't a common occurrence.
So there is very very rare possibility of reoccurence.
Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow
up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us.
Wishing you good health.
