What Is The Treatment For Tonsillitis?

Hello doctor, i have got my tonsillitis infected, pretty bad. they are attered, there is mucupus on them (white stuff, I am not sure how ot os called in english). The infection started like 10 days ago. my doctor gave me an antibiotic ehich i took for a week. I was staying at home, but due to my work i didnt really rest and was working from home insted. then the infection got worse which is why i went to see the doctor again. they made blood test which also referred to me having an infecion in the body. the doctor gave me amoxiciilin then. i am already takin it 3 and a half days now. it seems to be working caus of me getting my voice back and stuff, i also have a pretty bad cough which seems to be getting a little better. my question i should be going on a business trip tomorrow (2 hour plane flight). my doctor told that i shouldnt take the risk and shouldnt be flying. this business trip actually is pretty important. what do you say should one fly with an infection like that??thanks for your answer!

Hello,

Since you have infected tonsils you should get clinically examined by an ENT to detect tonsilltis or peritonsillar abscess. Get a swab test done for rapid strep test and a throat culture. Your treatment (by medicine or surgery) will depend on the pathology detected and your clinical condition.

Do continue to take the prescribed medicines, after the course is finished you should repeat the swab test to confirm you do not have infection. Sometimes, the infection takes a longer time to get cured. You are suggested to stay at home and take rest. Take voice rest also for better recovery. You should avoid flights when you are sick with infection.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
