Hello, 1. Trichomonas vaginalis is a vaginal infection. It is not actually a bacteria but an amoebae. It is sometimes asymptomatic but sometimes can cause increased vaginal discharge (usually green and frothy), itching, burning, or discomfort. Some people have it for years and do not realize it. 2. This disease is sexually transmitted. Prevention would include safe sex practices. 3. The treatment is one dose of metronidazole. This medication is an antibiotic. It can cause nausea in some people and you cannot drink alcohol when you take it or it may make you sick. This disease is very treatable.
