Hi,I am Dr. Radhakrishna (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have had recurent upper abdomial pain for the past year, it mimmicks a gallblader attack, I vomit at times with the pain and feel very ill. I also have intense itching prior to an attack. these attacks happen several times a week. I was tested blood and hida scan, gallblader is stone free and working at 90%. the doctor did mention spintcher of oddi dysfunction.
hi... i'm Dr. Charles and i will answer your question. Based on your brief history your doctor could have been right with the sphincter of odi dysfunction. sphincter of Oddi dysfunction present with abdominal pain resembling that of structural or inflammatory disorders of the gallbladder, biliary tree or pancreas. Among other characteristics, the pain is typically in the upper part of the abdomen or in the right upper quadrant of the abdomen, lasts 30 minutes or longer. so i would advice you to do the following tests. a liver function test, serum amylase and serum lipase and next i would suggest a visit to the surgical gastroentrologist to get an ERCP done and a sphincter manometry is done. treatment wise studies have told us that medical treatment with calcium channel blockers and botox injection to be less effective. sphincterotomy is the treatment of choice which can be done by a well trained surgical gastroentrologist. hope this details were helpful to you. thank you.
